As nature comes indoors, furniture goes outdoors in style, with our luxury bean bag furniture
Over the past few years, one key interior trend has been bringing nature into our homes through elements such as house plants, beams, skylights and botanical prints. Now, it’s all about moving the indoors out – building a fire pit, installing an outdoor kitchen and, most importantly, creating comfortable and sociable seating areas. When we started out, our priority was to create a range of luxury bean bag furniture that could be used wherever you wanted – from the bedroom to the patio. Armadillo Sun pieces function perfectly inside and out, by design.
Architectural trends and flexible living spaces
The concept of gardens as extensions of the home is now mainstream; ‘outdoor rooms’ feature everything from living walls to waterfall showers. Bifold and sliding doors create huge windows on to outdoor spaces and blur the boundaries between house and garden, and this is where our flexible furniture really comes into its own. Lightweight and portable, Armadillo Sun bean bag chairs, loungers, tables and cushions move easily between the two, making it quick and stress-free to take advantage of fine weather. No more ransacking the attic for the ‘garden cushions’ or hosing down the wooden table! Stylish and hardwearing, our bean bag furniture speedily adapts from accommodating morning coffee in the conservatory to cocktails by the pool. Now it’s simple to recreate your living room outside – just pick it up and put it in the garden!
Fresh thinking about alfresco furnishings
Don’t be held back by traditional notions of garden furniture – rickety wooden chairs, frayed wicker or rusty bistro sets. It wasn’t so long ago that it would have been inconceivable to leave soft furnishings outside, but durable, new-generation fabrics have changed all that. The unique, solution-dyed acrylic created for Armadillo Sun is waterproof, mould-resistant and stain-resistant, and our pieces are constructed to such a high quality that they will last many years, even if they are left out in the elements – they’re virtually indestructible!
Make your outdoors as stylish as your indoors
When we first started looking at fabrics for our bean bag chairs, we had a specific Inside and Out look in mind: feelgood colours and textures that complemented the garden but that also worked for today’s relaxed, nature-inspired interiors. Armadillo Sun’s fresh palette, classic stripes and modern prints allow you to create a look that reflects your personality and lifestyle. Our flexible seating makes it easy to experiment and be adventurous! Go classic with block colours, such as Ice Blue or Cuba Ruby, or try a pattern: Palm Pumice is a fabulous neutral that suits every room in the house as well as looking chic alfresco. Colour pops brilliantly against nature’s backdrop – a bean bag chair in vibrant Tulip Orange next to a smart Palm Navy lounger with a Coolum Green cushion will make a splash. Or create a mood – our Ocean Blue Palm print transports us to tropical gardens where we imagine lazing around on a bean bag while drinking a very large cocktail [with a chunk of pineapple - plus the obligatory umbrella, of course!] – this is all from client but I think it sounds better without – ending at ‘cocktail’.
Being outside makes us happy
It is a truth generally acknowledged that spending time outdoors boosts our mood and wellbeing: we feel less stressed and more focused. So it’s important to make our outdoors spaces as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Our super-soft and supportive bean bag chairs and loungers make it easy to take time out in the fresh air, maybe reading in the sunshine, toasting marshmallows over the fire or spending quality time with friends and family.
Laidback, contemporary living, inside and out
At the beginning of our Armadillo Sun journey, we were inspired by the relaxed vibe of the bean bag. We’re now proud to say that we’ve refined it into a range of truly desirable, luxury furniture that sits easily within the informal way we live today, suiting every space. It’s safe to say that the bean bag is back and here to stay!
